Transcript: Many things in this Piece can show a represent Sensation. with the canvas itself you can feel it with your fingers, you can see that the pieces of hot glue is a different texture than the canvas, and you can feel that some of the wires are thicker than others. You are able to process these things because of a part of your brain called the amygdala, without it you would not be able to see or feel the small differences in the world. This piece also confuses you as to what it is, the amygdala takes part in this as well. When all the senses are put together your brain is able to put everything together in order to get a better understanding of that specific moment.
Transcript: Perception is a weird thing to try to represent with this piece. However I can explain how many people's first viewing was like. Person one thought that she had seen a tree, she said "The wires sticking out look like branches of a dead tree", while person two thought that she had seen a bracelet, she said "The curve makes it look like it was supposed to be a bracelet or like a ring.” Person three wasn’t sure on what she saw, she said "It looks like wires that are wrapped around each other.” This shows that even though you perceive the piece as a unraveling bracelet, there will be people who see it differently.
Transcript: Things that can alter consciousness are shown with the wires and the beads. The thinnest wire represents stimulants because of how quick they are to bend /alter. While the thickest wires represent depressants because they are a lot harder to move, meaning you have to go slow. The beads represent different hallucinogens. The blue beads are the move negative hallucinations People experience like monsters, while the clear ones represent every day things like thinking you heard someone say your name. Many things can alter your consciousness like drugs, new perspectives, and traumas. Consciousness in general is shown by you thinking about my piece, you weren't aware of how much you were until now that I pointed it out.
Transcript: Memory is represented in this piece with the wires and the beads. The amount of wires builds up to one thing Just like memories. For example you can remember a situation as one specific way, but there are various other smaller memories that are associated with it. The beads represents how mood impacts your memories, the blue ones store less memory than the clear ones, because you were feeling a negative emotion during it. Then finally the bracelet unraveling represents how memories can deteriorate over time, because of synapses failing.
